Program Overview

The four-year Bachelor of Technology in Accounting with Computing programme is intended to provide a distinct bachelor’s degree in accounting which seeks to create a unique pathway for learners to build upon their technical accounting skills. Designed to instil technical abilities and competence, the programme focuses on facilitating the hands-on training of learners in the field of accounting, including the preparation of financial statements for both profit-making and not-for-profit entities, analysis and reporting of financial statements, audit concepts, taxation, and related accounting and finance issues. Hence, at the end of the programme learners will be expected to demonstrate and apply a much more hands-on, applied understanding and more practical accounting skills. Students completing this programme will not only demonstrate competence but will also be capable of efficiently engaging in their chosen field of endeavour as highly trained accounting professionals.

Admission Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION Sections of the population who will access the programme comprise: Holders of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE). The general requirements for admission of WASSCE, SSSCE, and GBCE candidates to first degree programmes are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects.   i. SSSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects. Relevant electives for this programme may include Business Management, Financial Accounting, Economics, Cost Accounting, Principles of Accounting, Mathematics (Elective), Geography, Government etc. ii. WASSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects. Relevant electives for this programme may include Business Management, Financial Accounting, Economics, Cost Accounting, Principles of Accounting, Mathematics (Elective), Geography, Government etc. iii. GBCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects. Relevant electives for this programme may include Business Management, Financial Accounting, Economics, Cost Accounting, Principles of Accounting, Mathematics (Elective), Geography, Government etc. (a) Holders of General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level  Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students). (b) Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) Accountancy Graduates to First Degree Programmes Applicants must have graduated with a good HND in Accountancy (i.e., at least 2nd Class Lower Division) or a related programme. In addition, applicants must have acquired at least one year of post-HND work experience. HND Accountancy graduates with First Class or Second Class Upper Division may be considered for direct entry into Level 300 of the Bachelor of Science in Accounting with Computing programme. HND graduates will generally be considered for admission at Level 300 of this degree programme. (c) Holders of Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)     Final Diploma Certificate in ABCE. Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). ABCE graduates may be considered for admission at level 200 of this degree programme.   (d) Mature Applicants   The applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application;   (e) Professional and other entry qualifications   All professional certificates and any other qualifications beyond the ones specified above shall be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for the establishment of their equivalencies, to determine their eligibility for admission into the BSC in Accounting with computing programme at Takoradi Technical University.
